Meet Marisol McDonald, a little girl with fiery hair and a love for peanut butter and jelly burritos. This bilingual story by Monica Brown is another book in ICAN’s Audio Book Tour, published by Lee and Low Books with illustrations by Sara Palacios, we learn that we should embrace the things that make us different. These things make us who we are.

Monica Brown, Ph.D., is the award-winning author of multicultural books for children. She wrote Frida and her Animalitos, Waiting for the Biblioburro/Esperando al Biblioburro, Marisol McDonald Doesn’t Match/no combina, Pablo Neruda: Poet of the People, Sarai and the Meaning of Awesome (with Sarai Gonzales) and the Lola Levine chapter book series, including Lola Levine is Not Mean, Lola Levine, Drama Queen, Lola Levine and the Ballet Scheme, and Lola Levine and the Vacation Dream. The New York Times, The Washington post, and NPR have featured her books. They have garnered starred reviews, two Américas Awards, and a Christopher Award. She lives in Arizona with her family. She teaches Latinx and African American literature at Northern Arizona University. Her books are available in bilingual or Spanish editions and translated into a dozen languages.
